Like a man chasing after and wooing a beautiful woman, J has been pursuing his dream of being a professional recording artist for years with passion, patience and a few great lines.

Singing since kindergarten to the pretty 5 year olds in his class, J decided in 1996 to try his hand at making his passion his living. He answered an ad in New York’s Village Voice for a male vocal group, auditioned with a song he had written himself, and was made a member the next day.  Being in an upstart boy band did not appeal to him though and within 3 months, J was out.  However, during his time with the group, J met producer Angelo Velasquez and the two continued writing music together, eventually turning their collaborations into J’s songs: “I Don’t Mind”, Don’t Break My Heart”, and “Girl In My Dreams”. J next was signed to an independent label, where he spent 2 years on the bench as they moved forward with other artists.  Undeterred, J left the label and began booking his own shows and promoting himself anywhere he could.

Performing one night at a NYC bar, J caught the attention of Nemesis Records CEO Kingmin, who immediately approached J about working with the label. With years worth of experience and songs under his belt, J was more than ready to bring his music to a broad audience and had finally found a label that was ready to move with him. Nemesis wasted no time and quickly got J on the radio in NYC and launched a website for the singer so fans could find him.

J is currently building his buzz in the underground and recording music for his debut album on Nemesis Records. His single “I Don’t Mind”, is on the radio at major R&B and Hip Hop station WBLS 107.5 and already being requested at other local stations.  As J’s popularity grows and more people are exposed to his music, no doubt some of those pretty girls from J’s kindergarten class will be calling in to request that familiar smooth voice.
